A Peruvian judge has ordered the pre-trial detention of former President Martin Vizcarra for allegedly taking bribes while he was governor more than a decade ago, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
During the hearing, Judge Jorge Chavez ordered Vizcarra to be detained for five months, making him the fifth former Peruvian president to be jailed.
Vizcarra is accused of taking bribes equivalent to $640,000 from construction companies between 2011 and 2014 in exchange for public works in the Moquegua region.
