France will send two Canadairs and a coordination plane to Spain to help control the forest fires that are devastating the country. This was announced by French Interior Minister Bruno Retayo, quoted by “Agence France-Presse“, BTA reports.

The aid is in response to an official appeal from Madrid to the European Union, Retayo specified in the city of Aix. He added that the planes will take off today from a Civil Protection base, and their mission is expected to last two days.

Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska asked the EU last night to send two Canadairs, as stressed that eleven fires are currently burning in the country at level 2 on a four-point scale. This level requires additional resources, including military units and specialized equipment.

Forest fires in Spain have already claimed the lives of three people this summer.
