A lot of show and little substance, writes the Greek daily “Proto Thema“ in a review of the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska yesterday, BTA reported.

The publication commented that from a meeting dedicated to the first step towards peace in Europe and the end of the bloodiest war since World War II, one would have expected at least one press conference at which the presidents would present some shreds of progress, but these hopes remained in vain.

“Kathimerini“ also writes that after three hours of talks, Trump and Putin left without reaching an agreement on a ceasefire in Ukraine. The newspaper also dwells on the “choreography“ of the welcome and the visible “chemistry“ between the two leaders, after which the presidents did not even answer questions from journalists.

„Ta nea“ emphasizes the impressive turnaround in the international image of Russian President Putin, who, from the isolation imposed by the West after the invasion of Ukraine, suddenly found himself greeted with honors by the US president.

The Greek state television ERT begins its report from Alaska with the observation that after the Trump-Putin meeting, more questions remain than answers.

The left-wing publication „Ephimerida ton syndacton“ is more restrained in its disappointment, writing that despite the lack of information about the details of the Trump-Putin conversation, diplomatic factors are in motion, Trump has held talks with the leaders of NATO and European countries, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is leaving for a meeting with the US president in Washington on Monday.
