European representatives will decide this weekend whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will be accompanied on his visit to Washington to meet with US President Donald Trump on Monday, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful said, quoted by Reuters and BTA.

Asked if German Chancellor Friedrich Merz could accompany Zelensky to Washington, Wadeful said that many Europeans would like to travel with the Ukrainian president if such a decision was made.

"This will be agreed this weekend, and Friedrich Merz's willingness to take responsibility is obvious and he has demonstrated this very clearly in recent days. "This issue will be discussed collectively," Vaddeful told German broadcaster ARD yesterday.

Following the summit between Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Alaska, Chancellor Merz said yesterday that she welcomed the US president's efforts to end the war in Ukraine and achieve lasting peace.

The French presidency announced that today the leaders of the "Coalition of the Willing" countries - French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Merz - will talk about Ukraine.
