The Israeli army has taken the first steps in its operation to establish control over Gaza City, its spokeswoman Brigadier General Effie Defrin announced, quoted by Reuters, writes BTA.
Earlier today, Defense Minister Israel Katz approved the operation called "Gideon's Chariots II". It is planned to mobilize 60 thousand reservists and extend the service of 20 thousand soldiers.
"We have begun the preliminary operations and the first stages of the attack on Gaza and the Israeli armed forces already hold the outskirts" of the largest city in the strip of the same name, General Defrin said tonight. He defined "Hamas" as a "guerrilla movement" that has suffered heavy blows.
