A participant from the Slovenian city of Kranj won over 37 million euros in the lottery game “Eurojackpot“, reported the Slovenian portal “24 hours“ (24ur). The lucky winner took his winnings at the last possible moment – just before the three-month deadline expires, the portal notes, BTA reported.
By law, a 15 percent tax is withheld from this amount, which means that the winner will receive a net amount of 31.7 million euros, and the municipality in which he lives will receive nearly 5.6 million euros.
The deadline for receiving the winnings is today, August 21, so the winner literally narrowly avoided losing the entire amount, the article on “24 hours“ says. If the winner fails to collect his money within 90 days, according to the rules, the amount must be returned to the “Eurojackpot“ fund and moves on to the new round.
“I cannot reveal information about why this particular winner waited until the last moment, because at the Lottery we very carefully protect the privacy and anonymity of the winners, which means we do not disclose any information“, Tina Dzinovski from Lottery Slovenia told the portal.
When asked if they had ever had a similar case, she answered negatively.
