At least 240 journalists have been killed in the Gaza Strip since October 2023, the enclave's media department reported on its Telegram channel.

On August 4, more than a hundred journalists from leading world media outlets signed a petition demanding that the press be granted access to Gaza without any preconditions.

As noted in the document, “unrestricted and independent access for foreign journalists“ to the Palestinian enclave is necessary not only to document war crimes, but also to prevent the distortion of the truth about the conflict by the warring parties.

The statement also said that if the journalists' demands were ignored by the Israeli leadership and the leaders of the Palestinian Hamas movement, the media workers would try to enter Gaza without permission, using “any legal means“.
