Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov used an English-language interview with a US media outlet to reiterate the Kremlin's categorical refusal to agree to US-proposed peace initiatives in Ukraine, according to a report by the Institute for the Study of War, BTA reported.
Lavrov said in an interview with NBC that Russian officials have explained Russia's military goals during meetings with Trump and other US officials, and those goals have also been explained publicly. He pointed out that Russia's public statements about the war convey the same messages that Russian officials aim to present in closed-door meetings.
“Lavrov's continued insistence that any end to the war must take into account the “root causes“ "for Russia, as well as repeated (insistence) since the Alaska summit on August 15, continues to indicate that Russia's military objectives have not changed," the report states.
