Israeli citizens staged large-scale protests today, demanding the immediate release of hostages and an end to the war in Gaza, DPA reported.

There were demonstrations and roadblocks across the country. A major highway near Tel Aviv was blocked. North of the city, protesters piled tires on a road and set them on fire.

A large march is also planned at the so-called Hostage Square in downtown Tel Aviv.

The protesters accuse Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of prolonging the war for political reasons.

The Islamist terrorist organization "Hamas" announced that it had accepted a new ceasefire proposal, presented just over a week ago by Egypt and Qatar, which are mediating between the parties to the conflict in the Gaza Strip. The plan includes a 60-day truce, during which 10 live hostages would initially be released in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

Meanwhile, "Amnesty International" has called for an investigation into "war crimes" following the "large-scale" destruction caused by the Israeli army in southern Lebanon.

“The massive and deliberate destruction of civilian objects and agricultural land by the Israeli army in southern Lebanon must be investigated as a war crime”, the non-governmental organization said.

“Israeli forces used hand-planted explosives and bulldozers to destroy civilian structures, including houses, mosques, cemeteries, roads, parks and football fields in 24 settlements“, said a report by "Amnesty International", which is based on video footage, photographs and satellite imagery.

The organization emphasizes that in many cases the destruction of civilian structures was carried out by the Israeli army in a clear lack of imperative military necessity and in violation of international humanitarian law.
