German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that Berlin will not join the initiative of the Western allies to recognize a Palestinian state at the upcoming session of the UN General Assembly next month, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
Merz said this at a joint press conference with his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney, who announced that Ottawa also intends to recognize Palestine at the General Assembly, after France and Britain had previously made a similar request.
"The position of the federal government regarding the recognition of the state of Palestine is clear", the chancellor pointed out. "Canada is also aware of it. We will not join this initiative. We do not believe that the requirements for this have been met," he added.
