The new president's veto does not automatically mean a suspension of Starlink for the Ukrainian army

The law suspended by Nawrocki covered not only social benefits, but also the continuation of temporary protection for Ukrainians, as well as Starlink funding

The Polish presidential office has rejected claims that President Karol Nawrocki's veto of the law on support for Ukrainian citizens will lead to a suspension of funding for the Starlink system in Ukraine, the BBC reports.

"Mr. Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski, it behooves you to fight manipulation and disinformation on the Internet, not create them", wrote the head of the presidential office, Zbigniew Bogucki, on the social network X.

He specified that parliament has the opportunity to adopt a new law as early as September to preserve Starlink funding and other measures in support of Ukraine. "All that is needed is an operational consideration of the presidential initiative in the Sejm", Bogucki added.

President Nawrocki justified his veto by demanding that the 800 zloty (about 190 euros) child allowance be paid only to Ukrainians working in Poland. The amendments he refused to sign did not provide for such a restriction.

The law suspended by Nawrocki covered not only social benefits, but also the continuation of temporary protection for Ukrainians, as well as the financing of Starlink.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Technologies Krzysztof Gawkowski said that after October 1, Poland would have no legal basis to continue payments for the service.
