The majority of Germans believe that Kiev should cede territory to achieve a peaceful settlement of the crisis, Die Welt newspaper reports, citing a survey by the Forsa polling company.
The statement that Ukraine “in case of extreme necessity“ should cede territory to Russia to achieve peace is supported by 52% of respondents. Among supporters of the “Alternative for Germany” party, 72% of the survey participants expressed this opinion. Less than half of those who support the conservative bloc of the Christian Democratic Union and the Social Democratic Party of Germany, which are part of the ruling coalition, agree with the statement (43% and 48%, respectively).
The survey was conducted on August 18-19 on behalf of the television channels N-TV and RTL. Just over 1,000 people participated. Data on the error rate were not provided.
