Foreign leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, will attend a major military parade in Beijing marking Japan's formal surrender during World War II, Reuters reported, citing the Chinese Foreign Ministry, BTA reports.

The event will be attended by 26 foreign heads of state and government, Vice Foreign Minister Hong Lei said at a news conference.

Also attending will be Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and South Korean National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik.

China's Victory Day parade on September 3 is expected to be a showcase of China's growing military might and a show of diplomatic solidarity between China, Russia and the Global South, Reuters noted.

On that day, President Xi Jinping will watch tens of thousands of troops march through Tiananmen Square alongside foreign dignitaries and senior Chinese officials.

The parade, expected to be one of China's largest in years, will feature cutting-edge military hardware such as fighter jets, missile defense systems and hypersonic weapons.
