The Pentagon is creating a task force to counter drones. This was announced by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
“There is no doubt that the threats to us from hostile drones are growing every day“, he said in a video message published on X. “We see it on the battlefield in remote places and along our borders“, the minister added.
According to Hegseth, there is a danger of drones being used to strike American forces and violate US airspace. “That is why today I am instructing the Secretary of the Army to formally establish a joint interagency task force. "This is a new joint group that will bring together the best specialists from all our agencies to respond to these threats and regain control of our skies," the Pentagon chief added. He specified that the group will "counter drones."
Hegseth noted that the United States hopes to "get ahead of its competitors" in this area.
In early June, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order, according to which the US Federal Aviation Administration must accelerate the development and testing of American technology in order to increase the production and export of American drones. He ordered to strengthen protection against modern drones. In July, Fox News reported that Hegseth had ordered to accelerate the production and deployment of drones, trying to get ahead of Russia and China in this area. Trump has repeatedly noted that the US armed forces are studying the experience of using drones during military operations in Ukraine.
