Germany has urged its citizens in Iran to leave the country and refrain from traveling there, so as not to find themselves the target of retaliatory measures from Tehran due to Germany's role in triggering the mechanism for the return of UN sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program, Reuters reported. BTA reported.

Great Britain, France and Germany yesterday triggered the 30-day process for the return of sanctions – a move likely to ignite new tensions - two months after Israel and the US bombed the country.

"As the Iranian government has repeatedly threatened consequences, in this case it cannot be ruled out that German interests and citizens will be affected by Iran's countermeasures", the German Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"The German embassy in Tehran can currently only provide limited consular assistance on the spot," the statement warned.
