Murder in Lviv! Former Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Andriy Parubiy Killed

Former Verkhovna Rada Speaker Andriy Parubiy was killed in the western city of Lviv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced today, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.

"Interior Minister Igor Klymenko and Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko have just reported on the first known circumstances surrounding the terrible murder in Lviv. Andriy Parubiy was killed", Zelensky wrote on the "Ex" network. The search for the killer continues, he added.

Ukrainian police first reported shooting in Lviv and that a "well-known public figure and politician" was killed. Shortly after, this information was confirmed by President Zelensky, who specified that it was MP and former Speaker of the Parliament Andriy Parubiy, Agence France-Presse reports.

Law enforcement agencies are investigating the murder of a prominent public and political figure in Lviv, the Ukrainian National Police reported on "Facebook", quoted by Ukrinform.

Operational groups from the Main Investigation Department of the National Police, the Lviv Regional Police, the Security Service of Ukraine and other departments are involved in the investigation of the case. At around noon today, the police received a report of a shooting in the Sykhovsky district of Lviv. The victim died on the spot from his wounds. The man has been identified as a prominent civic and political figure, born in 1971. The authorities are taking all measures to find the shooter. All details will be disclosed in accordance with criminal procedural law, the police said.

On July 19, 2024, Iryna Farion, a well-known linguist, political and civil activist, was killed in Lviv. The Halitsky District Court of Lviv is currently considering the case against Vyacheslav Zinchenko, suspected of her murder, Ukrinform recalled.
