Hail hit Piedmont region, damaging cars, roofs of buildings and farmland

Strong storms hit northern Italy, causing significant damage, DPA reported, quoted by BTA, citing statements from Italian emergency services yesterday.

In the Lombardy region, stormy winds uprooted trees and collapsed roofs of houses about 40 km northeast of Milan, the fire service said.

Hail hit Piedmont region, damaging cars, roofs of buildings and farmland.

Near the Swiss border, streets turned into mudflows after torrential rain.

The fire service received more than 200 calls within 12 hours, including from the Lake Como area and from Padua.

A day earlier, emergency services responded to around 1,300 calls nationwide due to the storm.

Weather is expected to remain variable over the weekend.
