The United States could become a third world country if tariffs are removed. This opinion was expressed on Sunday by US leader Donald Trump on his page on the social network Truth Social.
According to him, “over 15 trillion dollars will be invested in the American economy, mainly through tariffs“. If the tariffs are removed by a court decision, “almost all of these investments and more will be immediately canceled“, the president noted. "In many ways, we will become a third world country with no hope of ever becoming great again," Trump said.
In another post, he stressed that prices, including energy prices, are falling in the country and "there is virtually no inflation." "And all this against the backdrop of magnificent tariffs that bring us trillions of dollars from countries that have been using us for decades," the owner of the White House said.
Earlier, Trump said that all tariffs that he had previously imposed on supplies from other countries would remain in force, despite the appeals court's decision that many of these tariffs were illegal.
On August 29, the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruled that Trump did not have the authority to impose many of the tariffs currently in force. This applies to tariffs imposed in April against a number of countries. The Washington administration called these measures retaliatory. The appeals court's ruling also applies to tariffs imposed by Trump in February against Canada, China and Mexico.
According to the court's ruling, the tariffs will remain in effect until at least October 14. This delay was given to the Washington administration to prepare an appeal to the US Supreme Court.
