"In today's complex geopolitical realities, we must support the UN as a universal and independent organization. At the same time, there is an urgent need to reform the UN, first of all, its key body - the Security Council. We fully understand the complexity of such a reform, but there is no other way. If the current generation of leaders refuses to fulfill this task, this may finally and irreversibly undermine the trust of states in the UN". This was stated by the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who took part in the SCO Plus Summit, held under the motto "Implementing Multilateralism, Ensuring Regional Security and Promoting Sustainable Development", Kazinform reports, referring to the Accord.
Tokayev highly appreciated the Global Governance Initiative proposed by the President of the People's Republic of China at the summit, which contains a long-term vision of the development prospects of the international community. The initiative organically complements the common efforts aimed at creating a more just and sustainable world order.
The Head of State supported the idea of establishing an SCO Development Bank
Tokayev stated that Kazakhstan actively participates in all processes aimed at intensifying financial, economic, investment and technological cooperation in the SCO format.
"We support the establishment of the SCO Development Bank as a useful financial institution aimed at developing the economies of the Organization's member states. Kazakhstan is ready to continue to comprehensively promote the strengthening of regional connectivity. We believe that great attention should be paid to the further development and coordination of such large-scale projects as “One Belt, One Road“ with the Eurasian Economic Union, as well as on the North-South and Middle Corridor transport routes," the president noted.
According to the head of state, the task of developing common rules and ethical standards for the use of artificial intelligence technologies has become particularly relevant.
In this regard, he supported the creation of the Global Organization for Cooperation in the Field of Artificial Intelligence with headquarters in Shanghai.
We recall that Tokayev took part in the SCO Plus summit, held under the motto “Implementing Multilateralism, Ensuring Regional Security and Promoting Sustainable Development“. During his speech, he touched upon the topics of armed conflicts in the world and reforming the UN.
