The Liberian-flagged chemical tanker Scarlet Ray was unharmed and remains under the command of its captain, the operator Eastern Pacific Shipping, based in Singapore, said on Monday, quoted by "Reuters".

"We are aware of security reports that the vessel Scarlet Ray, which we operate, was the target of a suspected attack by the Houthis. We confirm that the vessel did not sustain any damage and continues to operate under the command of its captain. All crew members are safe and on board," the company said.

Earlier that day, Yemeni Houthis announced they had fired a missile at the "Israeli ship Scarlet Ray" near the Saudi Red Sea port of Yanbu.

Eastern Pacific Shipping is owned by Israeli businessman Idan Ofer, son of the late Same Ofer, considered the founder of the modern Israeli shipping industry.

Since Israel's war in Gaza against the Palestinian militant group Hamas began in October 2023, the Houthis have been attacking ships in the Red Sea in what they describe as acts of solidarity with the Palestinians.

The attacks in the Red Sea have prompted strikes by the United States and Israel. In May, President Donald Trump said the United States would stop bombing the Houthis after a brief campaign, saying the group had agreed to stop disrupting vital shipping lanes in the Middle East.
