The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced on Monday that it had filed new charges against Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov in absentia, Focus writes.

"Investigators from the Security Service have notified Kadyrov in absentia of suspicion under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine ("Violation of the laws and customs of war" )", said an SBU statement published on its Telegram channel.

The SBU had declared Kadyrov wanted in November 2022. According to the agency's database, he is charged with two counts, including "waging an aggressive war or aggressive military actions“. According to the Criminal Code of Ukraine, this provides for imprisonment for a term of ten to fifteen years.

Later, the head of Chechnya responded to the SBU decision, noting that “he had already been to Ukraine several times“ and had not noticed anyone trying to catch him.
