US special envoy Steve Witkoff met with European leaders in Paris to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine, the AP reported. He also plans to talk with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, News.bg reports.
Witkoff was invited to participate in the so-called meeting of the “coalition of the willing”, where international aid for Ukraine was discussed. Also on the agenda was the development of plans for military support in the event of an end to the war, in order to prevent future Russian aggression.
French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who are leading the initiative, stressed that any deployment of European forces in Ukraine must be supported by the United States.
Meanwhile, in Beijing, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he was ready to meet with Zelensky in Moscow. The Ukrainian president has already expressed a desire for such a meeting to discuss the terms of a possible peace agreement.
US President Donald Trump, who is trying to mediate, has also announced his support for talks between the two leaders.
