Pope Leo held a meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, at which the “tragic situation in Gaza“ was discussed, “Reuters“ reported, BTA reports.
During the conversation, the pope called for negotiations aimed at freeing the remaining hostages and achieving a permanent ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave.
“The hope was expressed for a rapid resumption of negotiations to secure the release of all hostages, urgently achieve a lasting ceasefire, facilitate the safe delivery of humanitarian aid to the most affected areas and guarantee full respect for humanitarian law“, a statement from the Vatican.
Earlier on the social network X, Isaac Herzog thanked Pope Leo for the meeting and noted that he had received a “warm welcome“ at the Vatican.
