Afghan authorities have ended the search and rescue operation after a powerful earthquake that struck on August 31. The governor of Kunar province, Qudratullah Abu Hamza, told Al Jazeera.
“The search for survivors of the earthquake has ended. The death toll has reached 2,204, nearly 4,000 injured,“, he said. The head of the region where the earthquake epicenter was located noted that the authorities are facing a serious shortage of tents to accommodate victims and displaced persons.
The Il-76 of the Russian Emergencies Ministry arrived in Afghanistan on September 5 with 20 tons of humanitarian aid on board. As the press service of the ministry notes, the second batch is planned to be sent in the near future.
