At least 20 killed in protest against social media ban in Nepal VIDEO

250 injured in clashes

At least 20 people were killed and 250 were injured in violent protests in Nepal today after protesters clashed with police over the government's decision to block 26 social media platforms in the country, including Facebook, X and YouTube, India Today reports.

Nepalese police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse protesters who tried to storm the parliament, and a curfew was imposed around the parliament building.

Police are also said to have fired live ammunition at protesters.

One of the main organizers of the protest is an organization called "Hami Nepal".

The NGO used social media sites Instagram and Discord to mobilize students for the protests, uploading videos on "how to protest" with instructions to carry college bags, books and preferably be dressed in school uniform.
