Five killed in Israeli strikes in northeastern Lebanon

Five more injured

At least five people were killed today and five others were injured in Israeli strikes in northeastern Lebanon, the Lebanese Health Ministry announced, quoted by Agence France-Presse.

Earlier today, the Lebanese state news agency reported that Israel had carried out seven strikes in the area near the Syrian border, where Israeli forces say they are attacking positions of the Islamist movement "Hezbollah".

According to the agency, the strikes were carried out on the heights of the city of Hermel.

The Arabic-speaking Israeli army spokesman Avishai Adraeh wrote on the social network "Ex" that the Israeli air force had attacked "several"Hezbollah" positions, including positions of the forces "Radwan" - the elite units of the Shiite movement.

These are the first Israeli strikes against Lebanon announced since Friday, when the country's army began implementing its plan to disarm the pro-Iranian movement, greatly weakened after its war with Israel.

Despite the ceasefire, which came into effect on November 27, 2024, Israel maintains a military presence at five border posts considered strategic in southern Lebanon, AFP notes.
