Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said today that Ukraine should be given the right to strike at military bases in Russia, from where attacks against civilians are being carried out, reports Censor NET, quoted by Focus.
The former prime minister stated this during his speech at the Ukrainian Defense Innovation Forum, which is being held with the support of the National Association of the Ukrainian Defense Industry.
Johnson also noted that, above all, Ukraine needs financial support to develop its own defense capabilities and stated that Ukraine's future is a matter of identity and choice, not territory.
"President Trump himself rightly emphasized: we must give permission to Ukrainians to use these weapons on bases that are used to kill their civilians, even if those bases are in Russia. Ukraine has chosen the path of the West and we must confirm that choice with our presence in Ukraine, with Western security guarantees and make it clear that this goes to European and ultimately NATO institutions“, Johnson points out.
At the same time, he acknowledges that a ceasefire could be a way out of the situation, even if it means freezing the conflict. In his opinion, this would not be a compromise on issues of sovereignty.
"It is necessary for Ukraine's global allies to show at least a tenth of the courage that the Ukrainians are showing. Then we can end this war in the only way possible - with a free, sovereign and independent Ukraine“, the politician concludes.
