The ambassador of the Russian Federation in Bucharest was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be informed that Romania condemns the violation of Polish airspace by Russian drones on the night of September 9-10, Agerpres agency reported, quoted by BTA.
The Romanian side has stressed that this incident represents an unprecedented escalation and a threat to the security of the citizens of an allied country and strategic partner of Romania.
“This incident shows once again the scope and seriousness of the consequences of the aggressive war that the Russian Federation is waging against Ukraine for regional stability and European security“, the Romanian Foreign Ministry stated in a statement, quoted by Agerpres.
At the same time, the Romanian Foreign Ministry recalled the Russian side's previous attacks on Ukrainian sites near the border with Romania.
“The irresponsible nature of these attacks, which affect national security and stability in the wider Black Sea region, and the imperative of respecting sovereignty and international law in the Danube Delta,“ was emphasized again, the statement said.
Over the past two years, Romania has repeatedly scrambled fighter jets to combat drone attacks on Ukrainian port infrastructure near the border. Russian drones have fallen on Romanian territory on several occasions.
