The statements and actions of European countries against the backdrop of the Russian-Belarusian exercises "West-2025" look like emotional overload, Russian President Vladimir Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov assessed at a briefing, TASS and Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
He, in particular, commented on Poland's decision to close its border with Belarus because of the exercises.
"Of course, such exercises always attract the attention of border countries. Under normal conditions of constructive, peaceful and friendly coexistence, representatives of neighboring countries always have the opportunity to observe these exercises. Such a practice existed. Now, when Western Europe takes a hostile position towards us, naturally, all this is expressed in such emotional overload for these countries," he reported TASS quoted Peskov's words.
The Kremlin spokesman also pointed out that Russia has never threatened any country, including European ones, and, on the contrary, NATO has approached Russia's borders.
"I want to recall the words of our president. Russia has never threatened anyone. It does not threaten the countries of Europe either. It was not Russia that moved towards Europe with its military infrastructure. Namely, Europe, as part of NATO - which is an instrument of confrontation, not of peace and stability - has always moved towards our borders".
Regarding the war in Ukraine, Peskov also noted: "The Russian side remains ready to follow the path of peaceful dialogue, to seek ways to resolve the issue. But the fact that the Europeans are obstructing is really the case. This is no secret to anyone".
The Kremlin spokesman noted that the results of the negotiations on the settlement of the The conflict in Ukraine cannot be instant, no one should look at this issue through "rose-colored glasses", TASS reported. Peskov recalled that US President Donald Trump had already said that he initially thought about the possibility of a quick settlement of the issue, but then he realized that more time was needed for this.
Reuters notes that Peskov said that the negotiations between Russia and Moscow were paused due to the actions of the Europeans: "The communication channels are available and functioning. Our negotiators have the opportunity to communicate through these channels. But for now it is probably more accurate to say that there is a pause. The Russian side remains ready to continue on the path of peaceful dialogue. But the fact that the Europeans are preventing this is indeed true", Peskov said.
