The Israeli military said on Monday that it had intercepted a missile fired from Yemeni territory, which set off air raid sirens in several areas of Israel overnight, DPA reported, BTA reported.

Residents of Tel Aviv and other cities rushed to shelters. No injuries or major damage were reported.

Since the war in the Gaza Strip broke out in October 2023, Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi movement has been firing missiles and launching drones at Israel, saying it does so in solidarity with the Palestinian Islamist movement "Hamas".

The Houthis frequently attack "Ben Gurion" airport near Tel Aviv and the "Ramon" airport in southern Israel. In response, Israel carried out airstrikes on Yemeni territory, saying it was hitting targets related to Houthi military operations.
