The iconic Citroen DS could return to the market. The general director of the DS brand, Olivier Francois, told the British publication Auto Express about the intention to revive the famous model.
As you know, there are currently four models in the DS premium line that feature avant-garde styling. However, none of them is a direct successor of the legendary car of the last century Citroen DS.
According to Olivier Francois, the company's executives are considering the possibility of creating a flagship model of the brand in the style of the Citroen DS, since very few models in the history of the car have become so iconic.
By borrowing the design features of the Citroen DS, developers will be able to kill two birds with one stone - make the car stylish and optimize aerodynamics.
One of the solutions is to close the rear wheels, as in the famous ancestor Citroen DS, and this will make the car significantly more rational in terms of body flow.
„A thoroughbred DS should be big, expensive and amazing,” said Olivier Francois, „Everyone will fall in love with such a car. We can create sensual, sumptuous, extremely inspiring cars that are very aerodynamic and very French. We'll show it to you soon."
The head of DS has no doubts that the flagship of the brand will be electric, because the Stellantis concern, at least at the moment, is actively electrifying. In addition, there is the corresponding STLA Large platform, which allows the creation of an electric car with a range of over 650 km and fast charging.
Olivier Francois remains a supporter of hydropneumatic suspension, which was one of the "trump cards" of Citroen DS. He particularly liked the car's ability to be lowered for passengers to get on and off. According to him, such a function would also suit modern crossovers.
We will remind you that Citroen DS was produced from 1955 to 1975 and almost a million and a half sedans, station wagons and cabriolets were produced from the model. For its time, this front-wheel-drive model was very innovative.
In addition to hydropneumatic suspension, the car has a semi-automatic gearbox, disc brakes and adaptive headlights. The Citroen DS is the most famous French car: it was driven by Charles de Gaulle and based on Fantômas' flying car.
