One car has come closest to 500 km/h - 1

For many years, car manufacturers have been competing to build the fastest production car. But Bugatti has been the undisputed champion for many years. There are companies that manage to briefly take the title away from the Bugatti brand, which belongs to Volkswagen.

It always happens that the ubiquitous W-shaped 16-cylinder engine makes her return to VW again. The current production car speed champion is the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+.

Again limited to 30 customer cars, as the Veyron Super Sport, this purpose-built high-speed car was driven to a top speed of 304.773 mph, which equates to 490.4 km/h.

The record was set by British racing veteran Andy Wallace at the Ehra-Lessien test track, which is owned by the Volkswagen Group. The Chiron Super Sport's W16 engine has four turbines and produces 1,578 hp.

The car that comes closest to the 500 km/h mark features a new gearbox with longer gear ratios, as well as front and rear bumpers optimized for high-speed driving.
