Electric cars break down 1.5 times more often than those with internal combustion engines - 1

Experts from JD Power analyzed the number of breakdowns of electric cars and cars with gasoline and diesel internal combustion engines. After extensive research, it turns out that the former break down much more often and fixing them is a real problem, as you can't just pick up and deliver the car to a repair shop where they will quickly repair it and get it back on the road.

The publication The Verge writes that for 100 cars with internal combustion engines, there are 180 cases of repair, and for electric cars and hybrids, these cases are 266. As it turns out, the most vulnerable point of electrified vehicles is the software. The publication calls modern electric cars computers on wheels, which manufacturers try to equip with as much software as possible.

After analyzing the failures, it was revealed that the software and control electronics were the cause of the problems in the “green“ cars. The interlocutor of the publication, JD Power expert Frank Hanley, notes that electric cars and hybrids have three times more serious breakdowns than cars with internal combustion engines, and correcting the problem requires a high level of technical service, which is not always and not everywhere is available.
