After a record-breaking August, BYD's year-to-date sales of electrified cars have exceeded 1 million. By selling another 145,627 electric cars last month, BYD has already reached 1 million electric car sales in 2024.
BYD reported sales in August showing a record 373,082 new energy vehicles sold, including PHEV hybrids and electric vehicles. BYD thus surpassed its previous record of 342,383 cars sold in July. Interestingly, BYD has set sales records for three months in a row.
Plug-in hybrids saw the biggest increase with 222,384 vehicles sold, up 73% from August 2023. This August marks the sixth consecutive month of record sales for BYD's PHEV hybrid vehicles.
Meanwhile, BYD sold 145,627 electric vehicles last month, up 2% from last year and up 15% from July. The growth was enough to propel BYD to the 1 million EV mark in 2024.
In total, BYD sold 1,004,623 electric vehicles in the first eight months of 2024, a 12% increase over the same period last year. The company notes that BYD's export sales reached 31,451 electric vehicles, which is 26% more than last year and 5% more than July.
