In the category under 10 thousand dollars, the leader is the second generation Chevrolet Cruze 2016-2019, and preference should be given to specimens from 2017 and later, but they are also a little more expensive. Among the advantages of the sedan are the comfort of driving, the dynamics of the turbo-four, compatibility with iOS and Android smartphones, the presence of keyless start and heated front seats.
In the category up to 15 thousand dollars, the prize is won by the Hyundai Elantra 2017-2020. It is preferable to take the latest versions of the sedan, as they have improved sound insulation, reconfigured chassis and increased smoothness of the transmission. The advantages of the sedan include a spacious second row, impressively low fuel consumption and a range of active safety assistants that appear in the middle of the model's life cycle.
When it comes to SUVs under $15,000, Consumer Reports' favorite is the 2016-2022 Honda HR-V, available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Spacious, economical, moderately safe, steering is responsive, but the suspension is a bit harsh.
The title of the best compact crossover in the league under 20 thousand dollars was awarded to the Kia Sportage (2017-2022). It is recommended to purchase a 2021 model or younger, as an update has been made here and reliability has been improved. The winners in the category of hybrids up to 15 and 20 thousand dollars are Toyota Corolla (2020−2024) and Toyota RAV4 (2016−2018), respectively.
The most reliable family crossover with three rows of seats, according to CS, is the second generation Mazda CX-9, the Buick Envision was named the best premium SUV, the Toyota Tacoma - the best premium SUV, and the Mazda MX-5 wins in the sports car category - all of these cars also cost less than $20,000.
