Mini changes strategy: company reacts sharply to new tariffs - 1

Mini fans in the US are in for a disappointment: the new Mini Cooper Electric and Mini Aceman made in China , won't be hitting the market anytime soon. A Mini representative confirmed that the launch of these models has been delayed indefinitely. Although no official reason has been given, experts point to high tariffs (up to 100%) on electric vehicles from China as a major factor.

These delays contrast with plans for the Mini Countryman SE, which is built in Germany and slated for a US market. Manufacturing in Europe allows Mini to bypass strict tariff restrictions, making the Countryman SE more affordable for American buyers.

Mini previously said it was deciding whether to launch electric versions of the Cooper and Aceman at the same time as the petrol versions in 2025. However, manufacturing in China complicates those plans. Some brands, such as Volvo, have already started moving production of their models to Europe to circumvent the tariffs. If Mini decides to follow suit, it could speed up US deliveries of the Cooper Electric and Aceman.
