In 2024, 31.282 million cars rolled off the assembly lines of China's automobile factories, which is 3.7 percent more than in 2023. Sales increased by 4.5 percent to 31.436 million units, Xinhua reported, citing data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). In 2025, CAAM predicts an even greater increase in sales, which may approach the 33 million car mark.
There are other interesting indicators: exports from China exceed the mark of 5.8 million cars, 1.28 million of which are new energy vehicles (NEVs), i.e. electric cars and hybrids. The report shows that a total of 12.888 million electric cars and hybrids were produced and sold in China last year, up 34.4 and 35.5 percent year-on-year. The export volume of all cars, on the other hand, increased by 19.3 percent.
The leader in sales in the BEV segment is BYD, which ended the year with a result of 3.7 million cars. Second place is occupied by Geely, which sold 862.93 thousand new energy vehicles. In third place is the American Tesla, which sold 657,100 electric cars. NEV sales in the country reached 1.59 million units in December, an increase of 34 percent year-on-year.
