In January, the automobile plant celebrates the birthday of the legendary family, and the publication of official sketches from the first half of the 1990s is timed to coincide with this event. The author of the sketches is Igor Davydov, a staff designer of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant. It is interesting to say that since 1957 there has been no generation change, nor radial updates of the UAZ-450 “Bukhanka“.
But it turns out that UAZ wanted to change the look of this model, but for one reason or another it did not do so.
The green light for the UAZ-450 project was given on January 16, 1957, and a year later the first production all-terrain vehicle rolled off the assembly line. And although small details have changed over the years, the design has remained unchanged for almost seven decades. But during these years, the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant discussed alternatives. Judging by the published sketches, a deep restyling option was considered.
Alas, the much more modern two-volume minivans remain classified, and the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant does not even dare to make a modest upgrade to the appearance of the "Bukhanka". The family is still produced in its entirety, with several variations - cargo and passenger vans and cars for special needs. And the plant does not plan to retire it.
