Google lays off over 200 AI trainers - 1

The American corporation Google has laid off more than 200 specialists engaged in training artificial intelligence (AI), amid growing dissatisfaction with working conditions, the American magazine Wired reported.

The company has hired contractors from the humanities to train the Google Gemini chatbot and the AI Overviews search program, evaluating, editing or rewriting their answers to user queries. At the same time, according to the magazine's interlocutors among former company employees, Google paid specialists from some contractor companies less than employees hired through the main contractor GlobalLogic. According to the publication's sources, while hiring new employees, the company is also trying to get rid of old ones, in particular by requiring them to be present at work in person, despite the fact that employees do not have this opportunity. According to the dismissed specialists, they were deprived of their jobs without warning, citing "project reduction". Some specialists are afraid of being fired because, in their opinion, they can be replaced by artificial intelligence.

According to the publication, the specialists hired for the job were probably training a program that will later be able to train artificial intelligence and evaluate the quality of its answers without human help.
