The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) advocates diversification of energy carriers and energy sources. SCO Deputy Secretary-General Ahmad Saidmurodzoda announced this at the plenary session “Climate Change and Sustainable Energy“ of the Eurasian Kazenergy Forum in Astana.
“To stimulate the clean energy market and contribute to global efforts to achieve carbon neutrality, the SCO advocates the formation of a clean, low-carbon, efficient and secure energy system, as well as the diversification of energy carriers and energy sources“, Saidmurodzoda said. The organization is discussing “measures for the coordinated development of wind energy, solar energy, hydroelectric energy, nuclear energy, bioenergy, hydrogen energy and energy storage technologies“ as promising areas. He noted that the transition to renewable energy sources plays an important role in the energy order.
“The SCO's efforts in this area are aimed at developing innovative technologies, promoting the development of green energy, increasing the use of renewable energy sources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions,“ explained the Deputy Secretary-General. In this context, he identified the transition to sustainable energy sources, strengthening energy security and stability of international energy markets as the most important task for the SCO member states in the current situation.
Traditional models are no longer able to ensure energy stability and in the context of instability in the international energy market, it is crucial to strengthen cooperation to protect energy infrastructure.
“It is also very important to stimulate investment cooperation to ensure a just energy transition“, the SCO representative emphasized.
