The number of Bulgarians receiving pensions and supplements under European regulations in our country increased by 50%, to 75,188 people, by the end of 2024, according to NSI data. For comparison, in 2020 their number was 50% less.
Among pensioners with experience abroad, the majority live in Bulgaria - 59,007 as of December 31 last year, while 16,181 live abroad. In both groups, an increase in the number has been observed over the last 5 years, but the share of those living abroad has been decreasing.
The most Bulgarian pensioners have worked in Germany - 12,534, Spain - 11,102 and Greece - 10,218 people. In fourth and fifth position are Italy - 8,649 people and Russia - 5,969 people. Many Bulgarians have worked in Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Austria and France, as well as South Korea and Tunisia.
The largest increase of all types of pensions is in those for disability due to general illness - 63%.
