The uranium concentrate processing plant in the Feldioara municipality in central Romania will supply nuclear fuel to Argentina for the first time. This was stated by Cosmin Gica, general director of the state-owned enterprise Nuclearelectrica, to which the plant belongs.
“The fact that for the first time we will supply nuclear raw material to another country that owns and operates PHWR reactors (heavy water reactors) is a source of pride and achievement for Nuclearelectrica and its subsidiary for the processing of uranium concentrate in Feldioara“, Gica said, quoted by the portal profit.ro.
Agafiel Maracineanu, general director of the Feldioara plant, for his part, stressed that the company “is ready to develop and expand the supply network and offer the nuclear fuel sector in Romania a new dimension - international“.
In 2022, a conversion plant began operating in Feldioara of uranium octoxide into dioxide for subsequent delivery to other countries. The fuel delivered to Argentina will last for 1 year. Romania has previously supplied Argentina with heavy water.
