Indonesian president announces rice import ban, according to the Antara news agency.
“President Prabowo Subianto has announced a rice import ban“, said Indonesian Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Suleiman. According to the Agriculture Minister, the country does not need to import rice thanks to its large reserves and a projected production of 34.8 million tons in 2025. He also stressed that the government will prevent any attempt to import rice, especially illegally.
The minister noted that the import ban is already having an impact on world prices: rice from Vietnam and Thailand is cheaper.
