Restoring Qatar's energy supply chain could take weeks or even months after airstrikes disrupted production of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and related products, according to Saad bin Sharida Al Kaabi, Qatar's Minister of State for Energy and CEO of Qatar Energy.
“The military informed us of a threat to offshore facilities. Therefore, we have restricted operations out of an abundance of caution,“ he told the Financial Times.
The company has notified its customers of a force majeure event due to the shutdown of LNG production. Production will not resume until the military declares a complete cessation of hostilities, Al Kaabi noted. Qatar Energy previously announced the suspension of production of LNG and related products "due to the military attack on its operational facilities in the industrial cities of Ras Laffan and Mesaieed in Qatar."
