While Bulgarian households continue to suffer from rising electricity and water bills, a reduction in household prices was announced in the UK. From April, household electricity and gas bills will decrease by about 7%, which will save families an average of 150 pounds per year. This is possible after the government exempted energy companies from part of the environmental fees.

The average monthly electricity and gas bill of a typical British family with two children in a three-bedroom house is about 137 pounds (156 euros), which is almost half the cost of a three-room apartment in Sofia with air conditioning heating, writes Nova TV.

Residents of the Island share how they cope with expenses. "We follow the tariffs for peak and off-peak hours. We run the dishwasher, washing machine and vacuum cleaner between 11pm and 4am to reduce our bills“, explains a young man.

“I don't turn on the heating often – one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening. My apartment faces south and the sun gives off a little heat. That's how I deal with the high bills“, says a pensioner.

Experts point out that the difference is due not only to lower fees, but also to competition between suppliers, as well as to careful management of consumption by households. While the British manage to control their bills through such measures, Bulgarian consumers continue to pay significantly more for the same amount of energy.
