The reduction of the share of nuclear energy in the European Union since 1990 has been a strategic mistake by the authorities. This was stated by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
„While in 1990 a third of Europe's electricity came from nuclear energy, today this share is only around 15%. Reducing the share of nuclear energy was a deliberate decision. And, looking back, we can say that Europe's refusal of a reliable, affordable and low-emission energy source was a strategic mistake. "This must change," she said, speaking in Paris at a conference on peaceful nuclear energy, organized with the support of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
