The Slavyansk thermal power plant (TPP), located in the Kiev-controlled part of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), has been shut down, the publication „Strana“ reported.
This was the last operating plant in the Ukrainian-controlled part of the region, although it had not actually been producing electricity since February. Now the TPP is officially closed „due to the security situation“.
At the end of 2025, Ukraine began to experience problems with its power supply due to severe frosts and extensive damage to the infrastructure. A state of emergency was declared in the country's energy sector. Subsequently, the situation was somewhat stabilized, but energy companies are forced to regularly resort to planned power outages in almost all regions. As of early April, Ukrainian energy companies had restored less than half of the damaged capacity.
