Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh al-Harabshah announced the intention of the kingdom's government to increase electricity supplies to Syria following the US decision to lift sanctions against Damascus.

„In the first stage, electricity supplies to Syria will be increased by 250-300 megawatts as a result of repairing damaged sections of high-voltage power lines, al-Harabshah said at a joint press conference in Amman with his Syrian counterpart Mohammed al-Bashir. According to him, an agreement has also been reached to increase gas supplies via the Arab Gaz pipeline from the Egyptian field in El Arish through Jordan to the Rayyan gas distribution station. in Homs province.

In turn, the Syrian minister announced the establishment of technical committees to review bilateral agreements on water resources, in particular the agreement on the border Yarmouk River basin. “A comprehensive action plan for cooperation in the energy sector has been prepared“, he noted. “Jordan will share with the Syrian side its experience in the field of renewable energy sources and the storage of petroleum products, and will also provide Syria with four solar power plants.“

Earlier, the World Bank (WB) announced the allocation of 146 million USD for the rehabilitation of power lines connecting Syria and Jordan. The World Bank's Middle East Director, Jean-Christophe Carré, called this project "one of the most urgent to improve the living conditions of the Syrian people."
