Musk tried to lure Zuckerberg to buy OpenAI - 1

The owner of the artificial intelligence startup xAI, Elon Musk, suggested to the co-founder of the Meta corporation Mark Zuckerberg that they jointly invest in the purchase of the American company OpenAI, which created the chatbot ChatGPT, reported the ag. Bloomberg, citing a court document.

According to him, Musk wanted Zuckerberg to finance part of the deal in the amount of 97.4 billion USD, for which the owner of xAI offered to buy OpenAI. This information is indicated in court documents in connection with the fact that OpenAI has asked Meta to publish data on the interaction of Zuckerberg's company with Musk.

Musk's attempts to buy OpenAI and involve Zuckerberg in this may show the insolvency of Musk's legal claims against the creators of ChatGPT, whom Musk accuses of “betraying the charitable mission“ of the company.

It was previously reported that a consortium of investors led by Musk was ready to acquire the non-profit organization that controls the activities of OpenAI for 97.4 billion USD. The company rejected Musk's offer. Zuckerberg and his company were not involved in the initiative.

Elon Musk and Sam Altman, along with Ilya Stukever, Greg Brockman and several others, founded OpenAI in December 2015. Musk served on the company's board of directors but left in 2018. In the spring of 2023, he founded an artificial intelligence startup called xAI.

In March 2024, Musk filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and Altman over the company's commercialization. Musk claims that OpenAI's focus on making a profit, backed by US technology giant Microsoft, violates a 2015 contractual agreement that Musk signed as a co-founder.
