US President Donald Trump said he has a list of US buyers who intend to acquire the social network TikTok from the Chinese company ByteDance.
“We have buyers. We have very serious American buyers who want to buy it“, he said, answering questions from reporters during a visit to the White House Museum in the US capital.
Trump also indicated that he has not yet spoken to Chinese President Xi Jinping about it, but intends to do so at the appropriate time.
The US leader was also asked if he was concerned about privacy and security issues in the context of the use of TikTok. As ag. Reuters reported earlier that an official White House account had appeared on the social network.
„I'm not worried. I'm a fan of TikTok. My kids love TikTok. Young people love TikTok. And we can continue to do that, but we'll be watching for safety issues,“, Trump said.
On June 19, Trump said he had extended a U.S. ban on creating and watching short TikTok videos by 90 days, until September 17. It has been about five months since a law that would have banned TikTok in the U.S. unless parent company ByteDance sells it went into effect. Trump signed an executive order after taking office on January 20 that would have delayed the U.S. ban on the platform by at least 75 days. He also told reporters that the United States should have the right to half of TikTok, but did not explain exactly what that meant.
